Hey Gorgeous!

Happy Monday, friends! It's an exciting day over here, as I'm doing a guest post over at the beautiful interior design blog, Simplified Bee!

If you know me at all, you know I'm obsessed with all things wedding.  I was thrilled the day I found my favorite wedding blog, Hey Gorgeous.  I was even more delighted when I got to know the beautiful author behind the blog, Rhiannon.  She also has her own business, Hey Gorgeous Events.  We've gotten to know each other well and I just love her to pieces.  She also had the most beautiful wedding. Ever.  So I asked Rhi if she'd be kind enough to share her wedding with my readers.  You're going to ADORE it, so get ready!
1) What were the colors and inspiration for your wedding? What were your favorite details?
Our wedding colours were originally champagne pink, gray, and black but they sort of evolved into a unique colour palette of their own, since I avoided ever being too matchy matchy (pinks, peaches, blues, grays and pops of black). I was inspired by things that were vintage and chic and uniquely representative of Andrew and I. I also tried to keep in mind the aesthetic of our venue as it's an old mansion with lots of character and charm. We didn't want to overdo things and take away from our surroundings so we kept things simple and meaningful.

Our favourite detail was probably our cake (and it was so delicious) and looked just so pretty sitting there behind us. We had two tiers of chocolate ganache and one large layer of lemon truffle. My mouth waters just thinking about how yummy it was!

2) Let's talk about the dress. Describe the moment you knew it was the one!

The dress. My wedding gown was Diana by Enzoani and was my one huge wedding splurge. I actually found the dress almost a year and a half before our wedding via a bridal magazine and remember thinking how much I loved the gown and how unique the floral sash was; how could I possibly find out where this dress was being sold? Fast forward exactly one year before our wedding date and a friend called to tell me that the dress, my dress, was in fact downtown in my hometown's bridal shop's window. It was meant to be. I went that day by myself to the salon, made them take it off the mannequin, tried it on, knew it was the one. Thanks to my incredible Dad we had the gown paid for within a week. I had the lace straps removed as I thought the straps made me look shorter than I really am (I am 5'1).

3) What was your very favorite, most sweetest memory of the day?
I had so many favourite moments of the day, but I really remember how happy I felt walking back from the lake after our first look right before our ceremony. I just felt so incredibly in the moment and excited to finally become married to Andrew. We were supposed to get married outside but when we made the call on set up I said to just go with being indoors. As luck would have it it started to become so sunny and perfect right as the ceremony started; inside. But I didn't care. Our bridal party and my Dad were all hanging outside waiting to head in and walk down the aisle and my girlfriends kept shrieking, "You're getting married!" and my Dad had a goofy smile on his face the entire time. Plus I felt a nervousness and sense of excitement I just can't accurately describe. It was magical.

4) What was one thing you were extremely confident about going into your big day?
One thing I felt absolutely confident in was walking towards my groom. Nothing will ever be better than that! Oh, and I did adore the decision I made to have my Mom and only my Mom help me get into my gown. It was a really special moment between the two of us and made for some fun photos ops of her and I together. I then had my bridesmaids each help with something else, like my gown's sash and my veil and garter. Getting ready was a lot of fun, like a bunch of girls playing dress up together; I loved that.

5) If you could do one thing over again or change anything, what would it be?
If I could do it over again, I would have made the rain go away. But then again our wedding wouldn't have been what it was. And I wouldn't change a thing in the world! I am married to the sweetest dude alive and that's all that matters to me!

Fashion Friday #22: Beachy Waves Tutorial

Last weekend on my vacation to Newport Beach, California, we stopped at the beach for a while.  Perfect photo opportunity for my next Fashion Friday, right? I thought so until I realized I was wearing the same sweater that was featured last week.  BUT the good thing is, now you can see how you can dress up and dress down the very same sweater (: I love the small lace and frilly details.

Here's what I'm wearing:

Sweater: Anthropologie, only $40 on sale!
Jeans: Vigoss
Headband: Whippy Cake. You know the drill.

Want some great beachy curls?  And want to learn how I get mine to stay all day?

I divide my hair into 4 sections (my hair is extremely thick!) Starting from the bottom, I take a one inch section and curl the hair starting at the bottom and wrapping it around the rod, like this:
except, I start at the bottom layer.

After I hold the curl for around 8 seconds on the rod, I coil it up how in the same way comes off the rod and pin it like this to my head:
That way it cools in the position you want it to stay in when it's out of the bobby pin.
After I'm done with all the layers, I go back and take out all the pins and run my fingers through the hair. If I'm running late, I'll just coil the top layer, so I know for sure that layer will stay nice and curled all day. Then I lightly mist my hair with my favorite Aveda hairspray to finish.

Here's some hairspray tips:
Thick/coarse hair? Just sprits at the end for a finishing touch
Fine/thin hair? Hairspray before to add texture and after to help it hold

If your hair doesn't hold a curl very well, the worst thing you can do is douse it in hairspray. The weight of the hairspray will pull it out!  The best thing for you to do is to wash your hair the night before and let it air dry so it's not as fine as it would be if you blew it dry.  Curl will always hold better if your hair isn't freshly washed and dried!

Here are some beachy waves I'm loving:

Hope that helps!

Happy Friday! What are you doing this weekend?

Sleepy Head + Blype Date + Headboards

{There's a little something for everyone today.  The I-stay-in-my -PJ's-all-day girl, the chef, the blogging fanatic, and interior designer!}

Yesterday was unlike any day.  My first class was cancelled, so I slept in and took it upon myself to label this day as Breakfast In Bed Day.  You know, after I got out of bed to actually make the breakfast...which was obviously Eggo waffles, orange juice and strawberries.  I even dipped the strawberries in sugar, because I was feeling spunky like that.

After breakfast in bed, I decided I should probably shower and get ready.  When I got out of the shower my sweet Blogging BFF Megan, from Across the Pond, had g-chatted me on gmail.  We got to talking and I told her I looked really embarrassing, with my wet hair and purple polar fleece robe.  I was embarrassed about the robe part mostly. But then she said she was wearing her blue fuzzy robe, too!  Then we decided to Skype. Because it was clearly the most opportune time, both in our robes and all.

We talked for 55 minutes and within that time, our stuffed animals, Lavender and Bartholomew, started dating.
We also talked about life, school, blogging and why we could never stop, her curtains and wallpaper, our crazy thick hair, and how everything in life has potential to be a blog post.

Meg also coined a few terms recently:
Blogpopblogger friend that pops out of the blogosphere and into your reality.
Blate: Going on a date with another blogger
Blype: Skyping with a blogger BFF

Our blype was awesome. We're going to do it again soon. Probably tomorrow...maybe this time we'll do it over some tea.

After my blype, I laid in bed some more until my class. I got to thinking about headboards.  I LOVE headboards! All kinds, really. Here are some of my favs:

I adore the velvet with the nailhead trim. Gives the headboard just enough pizazz.

The geometric pattern adds interest and detail to the cute pink headboard. It almost makes it have a more grown up feel.

White tufted headboards:
YES please. I'll have the entire room, actually.

Emily A. Clark's daughter's room.  So cute and sophisticated.  I love the height of the headboard.

Simply lovely. Rustic and whimsical, you had me at hello.

Loving the shape of this headboard, as well as the tufts in the upholstery.  So elegant!

Which one is your favorite?

I highly recommend staying in bed most of the day sometime soon. It's good for the soul. Especially if you're Type A personality like me!
Also, go on a blype.  You'll love it.

She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not: Look Linger Love

Happy Wednesday! It's that time of the week to hear from another of my favorite bloggers.  Meet Chassity: the stylish, fancy, talented and beautiful mama of the cutest little one.  She's over at Look Linger Love and writes about all things pretty and fashionable.

Let's hear what she's loving and what she's not:

Hey Everyone, Chassity here from Look Linger Love.  I'm happy to be visiting the adorable Michaela's blog today sharing my likes and dislikes.  What a fun series this has been to follow...

She Loves Me:

Gorgeous light fixtures, especially this one.

Fifi.  That is one well dressed bunny.

She Loves Me Not:

Captchas!  Who knows how many of my comments haven't gone through b/c of these!!

The $3K price tag on these beauties

The bored and miserable look that often graces Kristen's face.  Why?!

At the risk of offending some, I've never cared for the Keep Calm sayings.  And now it's just spun out of control!!

Thanks, Chassity! Love your loves! Especially that skirt.  And those codes at the ends of blogs...I literally can never read them.  Spare me. Do I have problems or do other people have issues with those, too?

Have a wonderful Wednesday! What are you loving?

Vacation Recap

This past weekend was an amazing time of family, rejuvenation and fun!  Oh, and also a really great hotel (: We were not expecting the hotel to be so nice, so we were pleasantly surprised!

These floor to ceiling plantation shutters are the perfect way to elongate the room and really highlight the tall ceilings. The pale yellow on the walls was a great buttery color to warm up the space.

Curtains:

The bathroom was huge! I was so excited to take a bubble bath in this spa tub:

Here's the lobby:

The view:

Huntington Beach:

While we were there, we went to Disneyland:
{my grandma, my aunt, my mom and me}
There's nothing like walking down main street, smelling all the goodies and anticipating the rides.
Do you notice the colors here? Purple and yellow- complimentary! Disneyland is so smart.

So, that was our trip! Today I'm heading back to Seattle to finish out my quarter. Time with family has totally given me the energy to keep going.

Happy Tuesday!
