On My Desk: West Michigan Cozy Living Room Design

DETAILS | Table / Upholstered Chairs / Wood Chairs / Console Table / Lamp / Leather Chair / Garden Stool

One of my latest client projects is coming together, so I wanted to show you where we are now! As always, one of the first things I do after meeting with a client to hear about their space and the direction they want to go, is to create an inspiration board with pieces I think will work well in the room. These are always just the foundation items (like a sofa, table, etc.) This is a starting point for both me and my client, as I show it to them and let them give me feedback. This is a great way for me to interpret what the client wants, and for the client to be sure I'm on the right track with the design plan. I send them to my clients to let me know what they like and don't like about the inspiration board. Once I hear from them on that, we start to pick out specific pieces, order them, and watch the room come together.

This client of mine is redoing the entire main floor of her home. The newly remodeled kitchen is done (and gorgeous!) and now we're finishing off the furnishings for the great room and dining room! I can't wait to show some progress pictures soon, but for now, this inspiration board is full of the furniture that is currently on its way to my client's home! It will be so fun to put together. That RUG. It's just killing me, it's so perfect and beautiful for the space! (It's custom) The paint color is Revere Pewter, one of my favorites. We are keeping this space updated traditional. The husband loves dark wood, so my job is to incorporate dark wood and then other softer, more feminine neutrals into the space to create a happy medium. All the light fixtures in the entry, kitchen, and dining room are rod iron, because from any one point in the great room, you can see all the other rooms. We did this to keep the look consistent and streamlined.

It's so fun to see design plans go from inspiration boards, to mock ups of the furniture in the space (what you see above) to the finished product all sitting pretty in my client's home. Have I mentioned I love my job?

If you are looking for design help with your home, I'd love to step in. Whether you're looking for an hour consultation to help start the ideas flowing with a second pair of eyes (my newest service, which has been amazingly helpful to many clients already!), you are far away and want virtual design services, or you're in the West Michigan area and want in-home design services, I've got you covered. If you're interested in where some of the above pieces are from, I'm happy to help you get them ordered. Email: hello(at)michaelanoelledesigns(dot)com

  1. I'm absolutely loving that dinning room table! That's similar to what I hope to be able to find for our new place!

  2. I love these peeks into what goes on behind the scenes with your job!! So fun. I like how you confirm the major pieces with the client first - makes sense of course, but it can be so easy to jump to the full look and the fun decor, without agreeing beforehand on the basics (my lesson learnt anyway!). I also really respect how hardworking and dedicated you are and have loved watching your brand come together step by step over the years. Business skills! xx
